April 1, 2002 Newsletter

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend.  The Bonfire Coalition is still hard at work planning for the return of Bonfire to Texas A&M Campus.

I am thrilled to announce that Kristin West, vice-chair, and I had a very productive meeting with Dr. Bowen and Dr. Southerland Thursday afternoon.

They both expressed positive attitudes towards the Bonfire Coalition.  They gave us some really good input and encouraged us to keep an open line of communication. Kristin and I were every encouraged by the discussions that occurred.

We will begin to work to set up meetings with the new leadership of Student Government as soon as possible.  We look forward to working with the new student leadership on campus to broaden the Coalition.

And now for the Committee Reports:

The Fundraising Committee met Thursday, March 28th at Rumors. We discussed which banks the Coalition should use. Thanks to everyone who attended the last meeting. We hope to see all of you at the next meeting for the Fundraising Committee, which will be Thursday, April 11th at 6pm at Rumors.

We will be continuing our discussion of fundraising ideas.

There will be a meeting for the Planning Committee this Wednesday April 3 at 6pm in the MSC flag room. We will be discussing ways to raise money and awareness about the Bonfire Coalition and Aggie Bonfire. We will begin planning a BBQ at Spence park as well as planning for our guest speaker author of "I Bleed Maroon" Frank Cox to come and speak about bonfire and other A&M traditions. I look forward to seeing ya'll there.

The next meeting for the Campus Outreach Committee will be next Tuesday (April 9) at 7:00 p.m..  We are going to work on a location, and let you know in next week's news letter.  If you were unable to attend last week, please try to make it next week, and as always, bring anybody else who may be interested.

Anyone who missed last week's meeting and would like to know what they missed can e-mail Brad and Scott at CampusOutreach@bonfirecoalition.org.  Direct any questions, comments, or ideas to this address.  We hope to see all the old faces and many new ones at the meeting next week.

I would also like to add a final note here.  Our Sgt. at Arms, Dave Nelson and his wife Ruth became proud parents last Thursday afternoon to a healthy baby girl, Megan.  Congratulations Dave and Ruth!

Please plan on attending a committee meeting coming up soon.  Things are already looking extremely bright for the Coalition and we want you to be part of it!
