June 6, 2002 Newsletter

Howdy everyone! I hope your summer is going well. This is the first week of summer classes here in Aggieland and for those of you here enjoying the warm months in College Station, we hope we can see you at some of our activities.

THIS SUMMER

We would like to do some outreach this summer and each of you can be of great help. First, one area we would like to address is contacting the hometown Aggie Clubs to inform them about our mission and objectives. Those of you who are not in College Station this summer could help us out by contacting your area's club to let them know about the Coalition and our objectives and goals--we want to contact clubs both in state and out of state. We will help you by providing the information you'll need. If you'd
be interested in helping out with this effort, please send an email to chair@bonfirecoalition.org with your name, email address, summer phone number and which area clubs you could help us contact.

Second, if you are here in College Station this summer, we would also like to help spread the word around here to students, the local community and local business. Also, on Saturday, June 29, we will be holding another car wash to help raise funds for the Coalition's efforts. The first car wash was a complete success. Everyone had a great time and I'd like to again thank everyone who helped out. If you can help us out with our next car wash on the 29th, we'd love to have you. If you are going to be around
College Station this summer and would like to help us out locally, please email me at chair@bonfirecoalition.org with your summer contact information as well.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

On Saturday, May 25, the Coalition's board spent the day with Frank Cox '65.  Mr. Cox owns and operates Hearts Way, a professional leadership training company, and has traveled the state and country helping to develop better leadership skills for people and he did a great job with us. We had a lot of fun and learned some new skills that will not only benefit us in this movement, but throughout life. We will have some pictures posted on our Website (www.bonfirecoalition.org) soon of some of our training sessions.

NEW BOARD MEMBERS

I would like to tell you all that we have three highly energetic new board members--Austin Bonds '05, Charles Teel '04 and Joey Dobbs '02. All three of these members offer great talents to the board. I would like to thank everyone who applied this time around. Everyone was highly qualified and it was a very difficult decision. Also, I would like to announce a new Co-Chair and a new Vice-Chair for the Coalition. Kristin West, who has served wonderfully as our Vice-Chair since the inception of the Coalition
has accepted the position of Co-Chair to replace David Rushing, who is leaving us for law school. Brad Shipman, who co-chaired the Campus Outreach Committee has taken over as our Vice-Chair.

Again, I hope your summer is going well and please contact us if you can help us spread the message this summer or help us at our fundraiser. The board will be hard at work developing strategies for the fall semester in working with the new administration to bring a safe Bonfire back to Texas A&M. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments.

I hope you all have a great summer and we look forward to hearing from you.
