January 12, 2003 Board Meeting Minutes     

The meeting was called to order.

 

Board members present and accounted for:

Charles Teel, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Brad Shipman, Alycia Zuehlke, Ian MacDiarmid, Katie Barrows, Scott Scherer, Patrick Dugan, Dave Nelson.

 

The following items were discussed:

        I.      Administrative Needs

A.     The Board of Directors list server needs to be updated with members’ personal information.  Each Board member is responsible for updating their info.

B.     The meeting minutes need to be prepared and posted to the website as soon as possible to show Bonfire Coalition website viewers current projects and discussions of the Coalition Board.

C.     Ryan announced that he will step down as Former Student Outreach, but continue his position as Vice Chairman.

D.     Charles will step down as Co-chairman and move to an advisory position.                 

     II.      Spring Semester, 2003 Goals

A.     Members of the Coalition Board will work until the next board meeting to draft ideas for a Bonfire construction proposal which will be presented during the follow up meeting with President Gates. 

   III.      Bonfire Research Project

A.     BC board members are working to finish the Bonfire research project.  Board members will call allotted colleges and universities to discover the methods which those institutions use to construct bonfires as well as all factors concerning bonfire safety, design, et cetera. 

  IV.      Moratorium and Business Outreach

A.     One of the goals this spring semester is to determine if there is indeed a moratorium on the sale of Bonfire merchandise, and if so what steps can be taken to remove it.

B.     Bonfire Coalition board members discussed talking to the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau to find out how much revenue local businesses are losing in the absence of Bonfire and from the apparent moratorium on the sale of Bonfire related merchandise. 

     V.      Government

A.     The Coalition may send questionaires to candidates in the upcoming student elections to discover who is willing to work toward returning Bonfire to campus.

 VI.      Bonfire Coalition for Students

A.     BCS will focus this semester on educating students about the traditions and importance of Bonfire.

VII.      Fundraising

A.     BCS is looking into t-shirt sales and other forms of fundraising on campus.
