The meeting was called to order.
Board members present and accounted for:
Charles Teel, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Brad Shipman, Alycia Zuehlke, Ian
MacDiarmid, John Cox, Scott Scherer, Patrick Dugan, Dave Nelson.
The following items were discussed:
I.
Magnolia Bonfire:
A.
The Magnolia golf course bonfire and concert went well.
Bonfire Coalition members had a good opportunity to educate the
press and public about the efforts of the Coalition to bring
Bonfire back to the A&M campus.
II.
Unity Project
A.
Members of Unity Project have informed members of the Board
that they were not happy about our participation with the Magnolia
bonfire. Board members were reminded that Bonfire Coalition is
taking no position for or against off-campus bonfires. The Board
chose to participate in the Magnolia bonfire because it was not
trying to replace Aggie Bonfire and because we were invited to
present our message at the event.
III.
Eagle Editorial
A.
Dave Nelson sent a response to the editorial staff of
The Eagle giving Bonfire Coalition’s stance on Bonfire
following The Eagle’s editorial “Time to let go of…” A
copy of Dave’s letter is posted on the Bonfire Coalition website.
The Board appreciates the fairness of The Eagle in
publishing the response.
IV.
Follow Up Meeting With Dr. Gates
A.
The Coalition discussed the possibility of a follow up
meeting with President Gates to discuss progress on the items
presented in our initial meeting, and reinforce our goals for the
current school year.
V.
Spring Car Bash
A.
The idea of a Spring Car Bash was voted down by board
members because the time and effort would not be compensated with
enough raised money to merit a car bash in the football
off-season.
